This SAE Recommended Practice sets forth accepted definitions and terminology of major components and parts peculiar to snowmobiles. Illustrations have been selected to identify functional characteristics and to identify common mechanisms. They are not intended to show all existing commercial machines or to be exactly descriptive of any particular machine. These criteria were prepared to facilitate clear understanding and promote uniformity in snowmobile nomenclature.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes test methods for measuring and identifying the lower order natural frequencies of an inflated radial tire with a fixed rim while expending modest effort and employing a minimum of test equipment. The methods apply to any size of radial tire so long as the test equipment is properly scaled to conduct the measurements for the intended test tire. Two types of boundary conditions are considered for the tire: unloaded and loaded against a flat surface. The test involves the performance and measurement of an input vibratory force (excitation) to the tire and the corresponding vibratory output (response). The data are suitable for use in determining parameters for road load models and for comparative evaluations of the measured properties in research and development. NOTES: The focus of this standard is identification and reporting of the lower order natural frequencies of the tire using a simple test procedure.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes uniform procedures for testing Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) which are capable of being operated on public and private roads. The procedure applies only to vehicles using batteries as their sole source of power. It is the intent of this document to provide standard tests which will allow for the determination of energy consumption and range for light-duty vehicles (LDVs) based on the Federal Emission Test Procedure (FTP) using the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) and the Highway Fuel Economy Driving Schedule (HFEDS), and provide a flexible testing methodology that is capable of accommodating additional test cycles as needed. Realistic alternatives should be allowed for new technology. Evaluations are based on the total vehicle system's performance and not on subsystems apart from the vehicle.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a single bolt pattern for the No. 1 clutch housing (see Figure 1) and the No. 2 clutch housing (see Figure 2). These four bolt patterns are designated to give commonality of mounting brackets in existing frame rails. The 420 mm (16.5 in) span, pad face to pad face, allows the ease of installation in existing frame rail widths. This is also the minimum spacing which will accommodate commonly used clutches.

This document describes a method to calculate noise level adjustments at locations behind an airplane (described by an angular offset or directivity) at the start of takeoff roll (SOTR). This method is derived from empirical data from jet aircraft (circa 2004), most of which are configured with wing-mounted engines with high by-pass ratios (Lau, et al., 2012). Methods are also described which apply to modern turboprop aricraft.

This document was developed to provide a method of obtaining repeatable measurements that accurately reflects the performance of a propulsion electric drive subsystem, whose output is used in an electrified vehicle regardless of complexity or number of energy sources. The purpose is to provide a familiar and easy-to-understand performance rating. Whenever there is an opportunity for interpretation of the document, a good faith effort shall be made to obtain the typical in-service performance and characteristics and avoid finding the best possible performance under the best possible conditions. Intentional biasing of operating parameters or assembly tolerances to optimize performance for this test shall not be considered valid results in the scope of this document.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) documents a common understanding of terms, compliance issues, and occupant injury criteria to facilitate the design and certification of oblique facing passenger seat installations specific to Part 25 aircraft. The applicability of the criteria listed in this current release is limited to seats with an occupant facing direction greater than 18° and no greater than 45° relative to the aircraft longitudinal axis. Seats installed at angles greater than 30° relative to the aircraft longitudinal axis must have an energy absorbing rest or shoulder harness and must satisfy the criteria listed in Table 2. Later revisions are intended to provide criteria for other facing directions. Performance criteria for forward and aft facing seats are provided in AS8049 and for side facing seats in AS8049/1.

The information presented in this AIR is intended to provide designers of armed unmanned systems with guidelines that may be applied to ensure safe integration and operation of weapons on unmanned platforms. The guidelines have been developed from experiences gained in the design and operation of weapons on manned aircraft that have been accepted by relevant safety authorities in the USA and Europe and proven effective over many years. Whilst the guidelines have been developed from experience with aircraft operations, the concepts are considered equally applicable to non-aircraft systems, such as those used on the surface or undersea environments.

This SAE Information Report J2836/4 establishes diagnostic use cases between plug-in electric vehicles and the EV Supply Equipment (EVSE). As Plug-In Vehicles (PEV) are deployed and include both Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) and Battery Electric (BEV) variations, failures of the charging session between the EVSE and PEV may include diagnostics particular to the vehicle variations. This document will describe the general information required for diagnostics and J2847/4 will include the detail messages to provide accurate information to the customer and/or service personnel to identify the source of the issue and assist in resolution. Existing vehicle diagnostics can also be added and included during this charging session regarding issues that have occurred or are imminent to the EVSE or PEV, to assist in resolution of these items.

This SAE Recommended Practice was established to provide an accurate, uniform and reproducible procedure for simulating use of MD/HD conventional vehicles and hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs), as well as plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on powertrain dynamometers for the purpose of measuring emissions and fuel economy. This document does not specify which emissions constituents to measure (e.g., HC, CO, NOx, PM, CO2), as that decision will depend on the objectives of the tester. While the main focus of this procedure is for calculating fuel and energy consumption, it is anticipated that emissions may also be recorded during execution of this procedure. It should be noted that most MD/HD powertrains addressed in this document would be powered by engines that are certified separately for emissions. The engine certification procedure appears in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40-§86 and §1065.
