The objective of this document is to enhance the test procedure that is used for ejection mitigation testing per the NHTSA guidelines as mentioned in the FMVSS226 Final Rule document (NHTSA Docket No. NHTSA-2011-0004). The countermeasure for occupant ejection testing is to be tested with an 18kg mass on a guided linear impactor using the featureless headform specifically designed for ejection mitigation testing. SAE does not endorse any particular countermeasure for ejection mitigation testing. However, the document reflects guidelines that should be followed to maintain consistency in the test results. Examples of currently used countermeasures include the Inflatable Curtain airbags and Laminated Glass.

This Recommended Practice provides a procedure to locate driver seat tracks, establish seat track length, and define the SgRP in Class B vehicles (heavy trucks and buses). Three sets of equations that describe where drivers position horizontally adjustable seats are available for use in Class B vehicles depending on the percentages of males to females in the expected driver population (50:50, 75:25, and 90:10 to 95:5). The equations can also be used as a checking tool to estimate the level of accommodation provided by a given length of horizontally adjustable seat track. These procedures are applicable for both the SAE J826 HPM and the SAE J4002 HPM-II.

Static and dynamic tests to investigate driver and passenger systems are given. Static tests may be used to sort designs on a comparative basis. Designs that make it through the static sorting procedure may be subjected to the appropriate dynamic tests.

This Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Standard (AS) Annex defines Minimum Performance Standards (MPS), qualification requirements, and minimum documentation requirements for side-facing seats in civil rotorcraft, transport aircraft, and general aviation aircraft. The goal is to define test and evaluation criteria to demonstrate occupant protection when a single-occupant side-facing seat/occupant/restraint system is subjected to statically applied ultimate loads and to dynamic test conditions set forth in the applicable 14, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 23, 25, 27 or 29. While this Annex addresses system performance, responsibility for the seating system is divided between the seat supplier and the installation applicant. The seat supplier’s responsibility consists of meeting all the seat system performance requirements and obtaining and supplying to the installation applicant all the data prescribed by this document.

The tool consists of series of equations that describe horizontal H-point locations as a function of vehicle H-point height (H30). One series of equations have been established for use in vehicles with H-point heights (H30) and steering wheel diameters (W9) less than 405 mm and 450 mm, respectively (Class A Vehicles). This class of vehicles includes passenger cars, vans, and light trucks. The lines describe the 2.5th, 5th, 10th, 50th, 90th, 95th, and 97.5th percentile accommodation levels expressed as H-point location for a driver population with a male-to-female ratio of 1:1.

The Road/Lane Departure Warning System is a crash-avoidance technology which warns drivers if they are drifting (or have drifted) out of their lane or from the road. This warning system is designed to help prevent the possibility of a run-off-road crash. This system will not take control of the vehicle; it will only let the driver know that he/she needs to steer back into the lane. This warning system is not designed as a lane-change monitor, which addresses intentional lane changes, or a merging system which warns of other vehicles. This informational report applies to OEM and after-market Road/Lane Departure warning systems for light-duty vehicles on relatively straight roads with a radius of curvature of 500 m or more, and under good weather conditions. Future revisions should consider the implications of newer variations on the user experience.
