Examples of included single chassis vehicles would be – utility and delivery vans, tow trucks, rack trucks, buses, recreational vehicles, fuel trucks, trash trucks, dump trucks, cement trucks, and tractors.

Road Hazard Impact Test for Wheel and Tire Assemblies (Passenger Car, Light Truck, and Multipurpose Vehicles)
The test is designed to evaluate the frontal impact resistance of wheel and tire assemblies used with passenger cars, light trucks and multi-purpose vehicles. The test is specifically related to vehicle pothole tests that are undertaken by most vehicle manufacturers. The scope has been expanded to allow the use of a striker that can be angled to preferentially impact the inboard and outboard wheel flange. For side impact of the outboard rim flange only, please refer to SAE J175. This SAE Recommended Practice provides a procedure to test a wheel or a tire and the test failure criteria. The specific test for a vehicle requires input from a pothole test on that vehicle to establish the drop height of the striker used in this test.
This SAE Recommended Practice provides uniform procedures and minimum performance requirements for fatigue testing ferrous and aluminum wheels intended for normal highway use on travel, camping, and boat and light utility trailers drawn by passenger cars, light trucks, and multipurpose vehicles. (See Figures 1 and 2.) For procedures and minimum performance requirements for wheels used on trucks, see SAE J267, and for wheels used on passenger cars, see SAE J328. For the application of passenger car and light ruck wheels [inset less than 0.10 m (0.33 ft)] to this trailer service, use this procedure. There are two basic test procedures described, a cornering fatigue test and radial fatigue test. The cornering test is directed at the wheel disc; whereas the radial test also examines the rim and attachment portion of the wheel.

The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide a selection of disc wheels for industrial and agricultural application with a maximum of interchangeability. This is accomplished by establishing five groups of disc wheels, in each of which the hub mounting elements are common. These groups are designated 4 bolt, 5 in bolt circle; 5 bolt, 4.5 in bolt circle; 5 bolt, 5.5 in bolt circle; 6 bolt, 6 in bolt circle; and 8 bolt, 8 in bolt circle. Further, this document establishes an SAE part number and the maximum rated radial load for each standard wheel. In addition, the document requires the wheel manufacturer's name or trademark to be impression stamped on the wheel with location at the discretion of the manufacturer.

Provide specifications for hydraulic fluids used in landing gear shock struts. Some of this information was previously in AIR5358 however specifications should be in an AS. The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide a reasonable definition of external hydraulic fluid leakage exhibited by landing gear shock absorbers. The definition will outline normal and excessive leakage that is measureable and routinely encountered in newly assembled refurbished/remanufactured components, leakage during acceptance flights, recently delivered and in-service aircraft.
In this SAE Recommended Practice, attention will be given to passenger cars and light trucks (through Class III). The purpose of this recommended practice is to define standardized symbols that describe the arrangement and function of drivetrain systems and components of all-wheel-drive vehicles. This document presents basic symbols, superimposed symbols and symbols with modifiers. Various vehicle drivetrain schematics are shown with specific component arrangements or general driveline layout to illustrate varying levels of descriptive intent.
This information report provides general guidance for the design considerations, qualification in endurance, strength and fatigue of landing gear using composite components as principle structural elements. The information discussed herein includes the development and evaluation of design data considering: the potential for imbedded manufacturing defects, manufacturing process variations, the component operating environment, potential damage threats in service, rework and overhaul, and inspection processes. This AIR mainly discusses the use of thick composites for landing gear structural components. Considerations and recommendations provided in this AIR may therefore differ greatly from considerations and recommendations found in widely accepted composite design references such as CMH-17 and Advisory Circulars such as AC 20-107(B).

Recent Salt-Fog environmental qualification testing in accordance with RTCA/DO-160G, Paragraph 14, Category S identified both discrepancies in the performance specification documents and potential in-service corrosion problems with the charging valve. A new SAE AS for Valve; Aircraft, Pneumatic, High-Pressure Charging is necessary to resolve these items.

This nomenclature and accompanying figures are intended to define fundamental wide base disc wheel and demountable rim terms. The dimensions given are those necessary to maintain serviceability and interchangeability of the wide base disc wheels and demountable rims with standard hardware. Valve clearances have not been included in this document.
Performance Requirements for SAE J844 Nonmetallic Tubing and Fitting Assemblies Used in Automotive Air Brake Systems
This SAE Standard is intended to establish uniform methods of testing SAE J844 tubing and fitting assemblies as used in automotive air brake systems. This document also establishes minimum qualifications for tensile and pressure capabilities, vibrational durability under cyclic temperatures, serviceability, and fitting compatibility requirements. The specific tests and performance criteria applicable to the tubing are set forth in SAE J844. NOTE--The test values contained in this document are for test purposes only. For environmental and usage limitations see SAE J844.Fittings--A type of fitting for use with SAE J844 nonmetallic tubing is included in SAE J246; however, it is not intended to restrict or preclude the use of other designs of fittings that comply with this document.
Road Vehicles - Wheels for Commercial Vehicles and Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles - Fixing Nuts - Test Methods
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to fasteners/fixing nuts as specified in SAE J694 and SAE J1835 used for disc wheels and demountable rim attachment respectively. Only the test methods necessary to assure proper wheel or rim assembly are specified. Fasteners for less common and special applications are not included.
This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of heavy truck tire force and moment properties under combined cornering and braking conditions. The properties are acquired as functions of slip angle, normal force, and slip ratio. Slip angle and normal force are changed incrementally using a sequence specified in this document. At each increment, the slip ratio is continually changed by application of a braking torque ramp. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control.
This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of heavy truck (Class VI, VII, and VIII) tire force and moment properties under free-rolling cornering conditions. The steady-state properties are acquired as functions of slip angle and normal force, which are changed incrementally using a sequence specified in this document. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control. This document addresses two principal topics; a) the description of a hypothetical “Ideal Machine,” and b) a standard directly applicable to testing practices currently common to the industry. The references to the “Ideal Machine” are meant to provide a roadmap for the testing machine manufacturer, providing direction and goals for the next generation of testing capabilities.
