This SAE Standard establishes the procedure for determining the operator duty cycle sound pressure level Lodc to which operators of powered recreational craft up to 24 m in length are exposed during typical operation as determined by marine engine duty cycle studies. This document describes the instrumentation, the required calibration procedures, the test site, the specifications for “standard craft”, the craft operating conditions, microphone positioning, test procedure, engine speeds for each of the Duty Cycle modes and the formula and table for calculating the Duty Cycle operator ear sound pressure level. This document is subject to change to keep pace with technical advances as well as other international standards and practices. Changes in this Revision: The sound pressure level measurements performed while applying this document are based on the Five-Mode Marine Engine Duty Cycle instead of a single engine speed.

This SAE Recommended Practice provides uniform laboratory procedures for fatigue testing of wheels for demountable rims and hubs intended for normal highway use on trucks, buses, truck trailers, and multipurpose passenger vehicles. The hubs included have bolt circle diameters from 165.1 to 335.0 mm (6.500 to 13.189 in). It is up to each hub and/or wheel for demountable rims manufacturer to determine what test method, accelerated load factor and cycle life requirements are applicable to obtain satisfactory service life in a given application. When deviations from the procedures recommended herein are made, it is the responsibility of the hub and/or wheel for demountable rims developer to modify other parameters to obtain satisfactory service life.

This lab test procedure should be used when evaluating the combined corrosion and fatigue performance for a particular coating system, substrate, process and design. The test is intended to provide an A to B comparison of a proposed coil spring design versus an existing field validated coil spring when subjected to the combined effects of corrosion and fatigue. The corrosion mechanisms covered by this test include general, cosmetic and pitting corrosion. Fatigue testing covers the maximum design stress and/or stress range of the coil spring design (typically defined as excursion from jounce to rebound positions in a vehicle). The effects of gravel and heat are simulated by pre-conditioning the springs prior to fatigue testing. Time dependant corrosion mechanisms such as stress corrosion cracking are not addressed with this test.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of heavy truck tire force and moment properties under combined cornering and braking conditions. The properties are acquired as functions of slip angle, normal force, and slip ratio. Slip angle and normal force are changed incrementally using a sequence specified in this document. At each increment, the slip ratio is continually changed by application of a braking torque ramp. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control.
