This SAE Standard applies to refrigerant vapor compression systems that provide cooling and/or heating for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles (on and off road) that use automotive type mobile air conditioning [MAC] systems. Large trucks, buses and other vehicles that do not use typical automotive a/c systems or use refrigerants not listed in this document are not covered by this standard. This standard covers any vehicle with a MAC system using a belt or electric motor driven compressor. This document provides standards for design, assembly, test and service of MAC systems to minimize environmental, health and safety impacts. Also included are cautionary statements for the service industry to alert technicians to the inadvisability and possible health or safety effects associated with venting refrigerant during service. It is not intended to restrict the use, or further development, of other types of refrigeration systems for mobile air conditioning applications.

This specification is a general level subsystem light source specification that establishes test requirements of Light Emitting Diode (LED) components and modules for use in automotive lighting systems. The completed test data to this test specification is intended to be provided to the OEM by the Tier I lamp set maker as part of the lamp assembly PPAP. Re-testing shall be required if any portion of the approved LED modules experiences a design, manufacturing or component change. This document shall be applied to systems that meet the requirements for design, performance and validation established by government standards. The LED module is defined as the LED devices and any electronics required to properly energize the LEDs using vehicle electrical power system along with any associated electrical wiring, connectors and thermal management system. Samples shall be tested as a subsystem and considered one test sample for the entire test sequence.

This SAE Recommended Practice defines a set of measurements and standard procedures for motor vehicle dimensions. The dimensions are primarily intended to measure the design intent of a vehicle within a design environment (i.e., CAD). All dimensions in this practice can be measured this way. In addition, some dimensions can be taken in an actual vehicle. If measurements are taken on physical properties, some differences in values should be expected. Also, care should be taken to not confuse design intent measurements with those taken on a physical property. It is intended that the dimensions and procedures described in this practice be generic in their application to both the HPM, described in SAE J826, and the HPM-II, described in SAE J4002. In some circumstances, the figures may only reflect one or the other.
