The purpose of this document is to establish air conditioning design guidelines that will apply to most systems rather than the specific design of any particular system. Operating conditions and characteristics of the equipment will determine the design of any successful system, and since these characteristics and conditions vary greatly from one application to another, the designer must determine the goals expected to be reached under the conditions encountered. To determine the capacity of such items as blowers, condenser fans, condenser coils, evaporator coils, filters, compressors, etc., will require the adherence to several guidelines, some of which are outlined in this document.

The scope of this Vertical Flight document is limited to human behavioral technologies associated with design and/or implementation of Enhanced Synthetic Vision Systems (ESVS) in vertical flight aircraft. Any overlap into logic problems or hardware/software design shall be considered to be incidental to the human factors issues. Where the performance characteristics of specific technologies are relevant they will be identified, and where performance criteria are relevant to specific intended functions/use they will be identified. From a regulatory view, intended function (Full Flight Guidance or Information/Situation Awareness support) has a tremendous effect upon the design of an ESV System. However from a Human Engineering standpoint, the information on display must be discernible and comprehensible to the human operator in both cases and differences may be primarily in information content (required to support a specific task).

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the requirements for air cycle air conditioning systems used on military air vehicles for cooling, heating, ventilation, and moisture and contamination control. General recommendations for an air conditioning system, which may include an air cycle system as a cooling source, are included in MIL-E-18927E (AS) and JSSG-2009. Air cycle air conditioning systems include those components which condition high temperature and high pressure air for delivery to occupied and equipment compartments and to electrical and electronic equipment. This document is applicable to open and closed loop air cycle systems. Definitions are contained in Section 5 of this document.

This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring sound pressure levels at the operator position for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. This SAE document is applicable to machines that have operator stations where the operator can either stand or sit and will be either transported by, or walk with the machine during its operation. The sound levels obtained using this procedure are repeatable and representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for operator noise exposure evaluations.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes minimum performance standards for new equipment position lights. This Aerospace Standard defines minimum light intensity in terms of candelas in vertical and horizontal directions about the longitudinal, vertical, and lateral axes of the aircraft. It also defines color tolerances in terms of limiting chromaticities for the light emitted from the position lights. It is not intended that this standard require the use of any particular light source such as quartz-halogen, incandescent, or any other specific design of lamp.

This revision introduces a cleanliness coding scheme that can be referenced as a requirement, and/or referenced to identify compliance to meeting such a requirement. These methods may apply to gaseous and liquid oxygen equipment. This document specifies work area details, methods to select suitable cleaning agents, cleaning methods, test methods to verify cleanliness level, and methods of packaging the components and parts after cleaning. Technicians designated to clean oxygen equipment must be qualified and trained to clean oxygen equipment. This ARP is applicable to metallic and non-metallic parts.

This document establishes the minimum requirements for seats and restraint systems for the flight deck. Due to limitations that it would place upon basic aircraft design, it is not considered practical for these requirements to apply fully to the observer seat. However, it is emphasized that every effort should be made to provide the observer seat position with an equivalent level of comfort and safety. This document is also intended to make recommendations for flight crew restraint systems. A properly designed crew restraint system will mminimize injury or debilitation during a survivable crash and enable post crash assistance to occupants and escape from the aircraft. Crew member safety is the primary objective, with appropriate provisions for crew comfort taken into consideration. The criteria established herein are designed to standardize restraint systems without hindering the development of new, improved systems.
