This document describes a practical system for a user to determine observer-to-aircraft distances. These observer-to-aircraft distances can be either closest point of approach (CPA) distances during field measurements or overhead distances during acoustic certification tests. The system uses a digital camera to record an image of the subject aircraft. A method of using commercial software to obtain the distance from such an image is presented. Potential issues which may affect accuracy are discussed.

SAE J1939-73 Diagnostics Application Layer defines the SAE J1939 messages to accomplish diagnostic services and identifies the diagnostic connector to be used for the vehicle service tool interface. Diagnostic messages (DMs) provide the utility needed when the vehicle is being repaired. Diagnostic messages are also used during vehicle operation by the networked electronic control modules to allow them to report diagnostic information and self-compensate as appropriate, based on information received. Diagnostic messages include services such as periodically broadcasting active diagnostic trouble codes, identifying operator diagnostic lamp status, reading or clearing diagnostic trouble codes, reading or writing control module memory, providing a security function, stopping/starting message broadcasts, reporting diagnostic readiness, monitoring engine parametric data, etc.

The Loran-C Radionavigation System, managed by the U.S. Coast Guard, is the federally provided radionavigation system for civil marine use in the U.S. coastal waters. It is also designated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a supplementary system in the National Airspace System (NAS). This system provides accurate radionavigation and timing services to users in the United States of America and Canada. Loran-C is also being used and developed by several other countries in Europe and Asia. Estimates of Loran-C system accuracy must take into consideration the transmitted signal, signal propagation, signal reception, interference or errors from outside sources such as natural and man-made electromagnetic noise, skywave contamination, geometric dilution of precision, other Loran-C signals, communication information superimposed on the navigation signal, and coordinate conversion.

Through the use of ultra-high frequency ultrasound, typically above 10 MHz, Acoustic Microscopy (AM) non-destructively finds and characterizes physical features and latent defects (visualization of interior features in a layer by layer process) - such as material continuity and discontinuities, sub-surface flaws, cracks, voids, delaminations and porosity. AM observed features and defects can be indicators that the components were improperly handled, stored, altered or previously used. If AS6171/6 is invoked in the contract, the base document, AS6171 General Requirements shall also apply.
